The Smith-Worthington Company is the Oldest Saddlery in the World.

The Smith-Worthington Company was originally founded in 1794, in Hartford Connecticut, by Normand Smith. Smith started the business making saddles, harnesses, horseman’s caps and holsters but soon expanded to include trunks, belts, bridles, stirrups, spurs, bits, and other horse related items. Smith’s Company quickly grew to be the largest manufacturer of horse equipment in the United States and widely recognized throughout the world. The manufacturing center was located in Hartford Connecticut and had showrooms in New Orleans and New York City. It was in the 1840’s that the manager of the New York City showroom, George Worthington, became partner of the company and the name changed to “The Smith-Worthington Company”. Over the years, the company changed its name just shy of a dozen times until its latest iteration known as “Smith Worthington Saddlery”. The company now has taken back a former iteration of the name and is once again entitled “The Smith-Worthington Company”.
